There are sports organizations out there that completely remove parent involvement from player growth. Some reasons are past experiences with trouble parents, avoiding helicopter parenting and tiger parenting styles. Though a lot of these type of parenting labels do ruin our child’s experiences, there’s also another view other teachers and organizations may use. Being a music educator most of my life and a sports coach, I tend to invite parents to get involved and to learn the lines.

The Suzuki Triangle is a philosophy promoted by the popular music educator Suzuki. The idea is parents and teachers must work together to meet the child at the top of triangle. If the lines are broken, the child will no longer be the focal point of the triangle. Thus, the triangle being broken and no success. All egos aside, in sports, we must remember that the child is the star and we as parents and coaches are to do our best to work close to equally to help the child rise to the top of the triangle.
